history of my wedding photography
after shooting monica and dave’s wedding, i wasn’t certain i was cut out for wedding photography. however, as time went on i found myself exploring wedding images on flickr.com. i found some truly inspirational work (http://sarahkchen.com and http://julesbianchi.com/) and some rather mediocre work that i find to be ridiculously over priced. soon i was longing to shoot weddings again.
i was lucky enough to meet a wonderful woman, louella, who was looking for a second shooter. i borrowed my friend’s canon 5D and off we went. arriving home a little before midnight, collapsing onto my bed, every bit of energy had escaped me throughout the day. as i lay there, staring at the crack in the ceiling i realized that this long wearing day was actually the start of a new career and that was a very inspiring thought.
after a long debate with myself (nikon or canon, which lens, 40D or 5D, D200 or D300?) i decided to purchase a canon 40D with a 24-70mm 2.8 lens. i heart it. the feel of its sleek, heavy black body in my hands is absolutely enlightening. i feel how wonderwoman must have felt with all her jewelery on.
the energy and anticipation of weddings thrills me. there is something very rewarding about capturing moments that will be remembered forever because of my photographs. and although it’s not saving lives or feeding the poor, i finally feel fulfilled in giving something back to people that is maybe, just maybe, making their day a little brighter.
