comerica park

Hello blog!  Sorry to have been away so long.  I’ve been doing so much traveling (sans computer) the past 2 months that as you’ve noticed, I’m way behind on my blog time.  From May 1 to June 30 I had been in 4 countries and 16 cities! No wonder I haven’t had time to blog. Anyway, due to a backlog of travel photos, I’ve decided to start with recent and work my way backwards.

Last weekend I went to Comerica Park in Detroit, MI. Being the baseball fan that I am, my camera was in hand constantly. Yes, I still know who won the game, the Cleveland Indians 5-4. Although being a die hard St Louis Cardinals fan, I didn’t really care about the outcome, instead I thoroughly enjoyed the stadium.

We sat 1st base side in box seats. The view was spectacular.

The beer wasn’t too bad either ;)

This little guy had one of those giant pinwheel, spiral suckers. He was a mess but despite the serious look he was giving me here was having a blast, not to mention a sugar high…

It was about this time in the evening that I nearly got into my first fight.  Proudly wearing my St Louis Cardinals tank top and hat, a Detroit fan passed me and said “Cardinals suck!” I shouted back, “no they don’t, what happened in 06? Oh yeah, that’s right, the Cardinals beat you to win the World Series!” He immediately turned into a vicious dog ready to attack but luckily enough people separated us at this point and I was safe.  I forget that not all rivalries and fans are as nice as Cardinals & Cubs.

As I was taking this next photo, a man stopped me to tell me the clouds were better if I stood on the other side of the statue.  I agreed but said the statue didn’t look quite as nice from that angle.  “True, but the clouds here,” he said motioning with his fingers locked in a V, “are so much nicer.”  I politely disagreed and he said he wanted to see my photo.  Upon showing him this, he gasped and turned to me wide-eyed, beer in hand, “Wow! You have a great eye!” I thanked him and continued snapping away, getting a chuckle out of this meeting.

One of my favorite things about stadiums is how they seem to take on a completely different personality in the night or in the day.  The beauty of Michigan is that in the summer, it stays daylight until 9:30 or 10pm.  Therefore, I got the best of all worlds, bright sunshine for our arrival, the golden hour, and of course, night shots.  The best thing about stadiums at night, they are already well lit without the use of a tripod or flash.  Thank you baseball for being awesome.

After the game, they had a fireworks show which was timed to, you guessed it, Michael Jackson’s music. (don’t get me started) It was still beautiful none the less.  Although the majority of these were taken on my DSLR, I tried out a fireworks setting on my point and shoot and was happily surprised with the outcome.
