cropped frame vs full frame: meet 5D MK II

After deciding a second camera is necessary for all the weddings I have coming up this fall, I decided a full frame sensor was the way to go.  Many people ask what exactly that means.  I put my new full frame camera to the test almost immediately after opening the box!  Using the 16-35mm 2.8 lens on both bodies, I shot this mocked up comparison shoot with the lenses.  (and the help of my mom :))

cropped frame vs full frame

As you can see, both images were taken at the same ISO, same f-stop, same shutter, same wide lens of 16mm, but they look QUITE different.  Although it’s no where near an exact comparison to the differences a full frame body vs a cropped sensor can give you, hopefully this helps to understand the EXTREME difference between the two sensors.

And that brings us to 5D MK II.  Please aquaint yourself.  World, meet 5D.  5D, meet world.

Opening the box!

Out of the box!  Finally! :)

That little rechargeable wonder… the battery wouldn’t charge fast enough! I wanted to shoot straight away.

And as you can tell, from above, I finally did get to try my new little beauty out. Only 6 shots in, I’m in LOVE!! I have THREE photo sessions this weekend and I can’t WAIT to try out the new camera…

… oh and but of course, my first picture with my new camera of course taken by yours truly. (with the 40D)

  1. Awesome blog posting. I think the photo of your mom is a perfect example on why full frame rocks. Yay.
Your Fall weddings are going to be so great! Now you should probably get a terabyte drive to hold all your new monster huge images.
